Some photos of the ENPA
There was about 20 ENP (Ecoles Nationales Professionnelles) in France that have disappeared in the early 60's. The ENP of Armentières was the best one (had the best results) but had an iron discipline! The publicity of the school: "5 study years, one job" they entered by an entrance examination (120 passed for 600 candidates) at the level of the third year of a college. They have also the possibility to enter by another entrance examination at the following year level, it is what I did (no more 30 passed: to replace the 30 ones of the previous level that were eliminated! Effectively, those who have not obtained an average at least equal to a fixed value were rejected from the school! The value was 10/20 for the 3 first years and 12/20 for the 2 last years.
We had 54 hours of courses by week (9h by day from monday until saturday) including 12h of workshop. The 3 first years we did all workshops every year. We specialised only in the 2 last years. So that we learned joinery, model making, all mechanics trades (ajusting, machine tools, metrology), foundry, forge, electricity, boilermaking, welding, soldering, thermal treatments.
The other matters were more numerous than other technical high schools : 5 matters in french, english, history, geography, art drawing, industrial drawing, mechanics, physics, chemistry, natural sciences, electricity, geometry, algebra, descriptive geometry , construction technology, professionnal technology and technology of speciality of all the trades corresponding to all workshops. Every week, we had an examination on mathematics, physics, chemistry, french. There were two courses of study, one that lead to the entrance examination to ENIAM (Industrial engineer high school) the school (ENPA) have never knowned a failure in this course, the other one lead to the ENP diploma.
Picturesque details: We had an uniform like this one of the "Arts et Métiers" engineers. To exit the school (sunday walk of 10 to 15kms (called vesée) if in detention (blocked) else we had to go to movies in rows in the town). We had also one movie show on saturday evening into the school. Appropiate clothing: white coat. One time by month, special meal: mussels, french fries, sylvaner. One time by year, Father Cent feast (from 100 days from the end "décale" (DKL) ), at this occasion, the "seniors" subjected hazing to newbies in the school and under the presence of the manager and the general supervisor. The freshers had to learn by heart a list of classical idiotics. Every teacher and every supervisor had a nickname, the manager was called "the Collocs" and the general supervisor was called "the Tao".

TO HEAR THE ENP HYMN OR THE DÉCALE SONG
USE THE COMMANDS BELOW:
(Chanson des ENP)
(Air des Allobroges)
Quand tu parais, DKL radieuse
